More Partner Program creators are getting access to YouTube's retail services. These are the specifics and prerequisites to get your store up and running. Read on to learn how you can join in the fun!
What changed
YouTube has added a new partner program that allows users to create exclusive merchandise. Called Revenue sharing for merchandising, select partners have been given access in a beta stage. When they sign up, they’re given an interface where they can design their merchandise, sell it to fans and keep 85% of revenue from sales. This only includes revenue from sales on YouTube's site; it doesn't count third-party sites like Redbubble or Zazzle.
What do I have to do?
To take part in YouTube's partner program, you must have a channel with a minimum of 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours over 12 months. The channel must also be in good standing with YouTube terms. This means no strikes or community guideline violations in your account's history. The channel is required to have uploaded original content that has not been published anywhere else before.
How do I set up payment information?
Once you’ve linked your AdSense account, YouTube will allow you to set up a payment information page. This is located in your Account settings. Scroll down and look for where it says Monetization settings. In that area, click Channel payments and then click Set up billing information. Enter your bank account details and save your changes.
What kind of merchandise can I sell?
You can sell all kinds of merchandise, including physical (shirts, hats, pins), digital (downloads), and experiential (tickets and other types of experiences). There is a minimum price for each type of product—and you must abide by these minimums for each product category. For example, if you're selling T-shirts, each shirt must have a minimum price of $20. You'll also need to use YouTube's marketplace system—the same one available on its main website—to generate sales.
When will my fans be able to buy this stuff?
Starting today, those who have access can start selling merch on their channel. You can learn more about YouTube’s Partner Program here.
